Eggnog is well known as a Christmas classic. And classics are -- well classic. But is there anything you've ever wanted to change about the British concoction?

I know that I personally was turned off from trying eggnog for years! In fact, I didn't try it until last year -- and that was coconut nog. Technically to this day, I have never had real, true eggnog. But I do know that is an alcoholic Christmas classic, and that is essentially where my interest begins and ends.

What I did learn about eggnog is that it was likely made to be an alcoholic drink because it is a dairy beverage and was created before refrigeration.

But I will talk about that on my Eggnog history post on Christmas Eve.

Today, let's talk about how you can refresh this classic!

It is usually made with some brown alcohol, rum, brandy, or bourbon! The base is made with eggs, milk, cream, nutmeg, and sugar. I will not be showing you how to make actually eggnog, but instead, a quick trick to add an unexpected twist that will refresh this drink for you, no matter how many times you have had it!

Adding Grand Marnier will add an orange flavour to your eggnog without curdling it, while subtly incorporating brandy. Adding Disaronno will add a warm almond flavour with dark cherry undertones.

Ingredients:

- 2 oz spiced rum or whisky

- ΒΌ oz cinnamon-infused Disaronno

- Β½ oz Grand Marnier

- 6 oz Coconog/Eggnog

Garnish: white chocolate whipped cream, cinnamon stick, candied orange zest

Glass: Rocks/Mug
Mixed or shaken -- dealer's choice

Directions:

1. Set out your glass

2. Add ice to your glass

3. Combine ingredients either in a shaker or in the glass. Shaking will add a nice froth to it, but isn't necessary if you don't have a shaker!

4. If garnishing, top with whipped cream of your choice, stick a cinnamon stick in, and sprinkle with candied orange zest!

5. Enjoy, and if you make this, tag @atwistoflemoncocktails on Instagram!
